Wow. Amalah is not someone I usually follow (though she seems awesome), so I didn’t know what to expect. It totally blindsided me, not because I have kids, but because I’m in grad school and not working and there are some strong parallels there that kicked me in the stomach.
And the face value of the story hit me too, because I’ve always felt like if I have kids, I want to stay home with them, because if they’re mine I want to raise them rather than paying someone else to do it. It’s a bit damned if you do, damned if you don’t, isn’t it?
