No Idea What To Say

I still have a job. A lot of people I know don’t. Layoffs are horrible, and I’ve seen a few by now. A lot of people I enjoy working with are no longer working here, and it’s a horrible feeling, knowing they’re not dead, but feeling like they are. I have no idea what to say. I talked to one friend who’s leaving, and I think I made her cry. It wasn’t on purpose.\
I still have no idea what to say.

  1. That really sucks. It sounds like you’re feeling some kind of “survivors guilt” becuse you’re still employed.
    They’ll be ok, Kevin.
    Things are bad all over.

  2. I know what you mean. I only knew two people who were cut, and I didn’t know either of them very well, but every time they do this it feels like death. I’m always surprised by those who appear to remain wholly unaffected, and some who are even callous about it.
What always occurs to me is that I skated through – this time. They’ll do it again. And again, and again.
I should have been a lumberjack.
