After the burrito…

Here is a follow up post from Amalah: Check it out.\
I read her post and can sympathize, but can’t empathize at all. Kevin and I are great, solid, blah blah, all sorts of schmoopy good things, blah blah.\
But truthfully, if I could go back in a time and not have kids? I would so do it. Gosh darn it, but childrearing is THE SUCK. (I type this as Brian is having a crying fit about washing his hands. OMG, what I am going to do when he doesn’t go to all-day school? Uh, I’m going to go hide under the covers. Be back later.)

  1. Wow. Amalah is not someone I usually follow (though she seems awesome), so I didn’t know what to expect. It totally blindsided me, not because I have kids, but because I’m in grad school and not working and there are some strong parallels there that kicked me in the stomach.
And the face value of the story hit me too, because I’ve always felt like if I have kids, I want to stay home with them, because if they’re mine I want to raise them rather than paying someone else to do it. It’s a bit damned if you do, damned if you don’t, isn’t it?

  2. Thanks for linking to that. I was JUST talking to a young colleague of mine today about this: she and her fiance are moving to NYC, plan to stay a couple of years. I told her emphatically that they MUST be persistent about doing all the things they’ll only be able to do easily while they’re kid-free, because one of these days, regardless of how much money they happen to make, PARENTAL LOGISTICS will become Operational Topic #1 in their lives.
