Kevin Other Places

I've abandoned most of the major social networks over the past few years. I deleted my Twitter account in 2022 after the board approved Elon Musk's offer, and only recently put up my archive. I still have my Facebook and Instagram accounts, but I never check them.

I believe in the open web and have for over thirty years. We've gotten lazy and allowed ourselves, our friends and our families to get "captured" by large corporations who've turned us against one another to their own ends.

It's time to build new things, and I don't know what that looks like but it's probably a lot like the Fediverse - smaller, distributed, and built by people who care about people.

So, with all that said, here's where I am, kind of in order of priority?

  • Mastodon - If you've never heard of Mastodon, it's great. It's kind of like twitter, but not centralized. You can pick your server, be part of a small community or take part in the larger world. I love it.
  • omg.lol - I really love the spirit of this place. It's very DIY, friendly and fun. If you need a new home on the internet, check it out!
  • Flickr - The original and still around, and I've kept my Pro account just because I didn't want to deal with moving photos. I might go back?
