I am saving my indepth post about Veronica Mars until it has aired, but know that I loved it and thought Kristen Bell looked hot and was cute and sassy as ever! I also thought it did a great job welcoming new viewers without weighty exposition (um, except for Cormac, but more on that later). This is definitely ‘do or die’ time for the show, so keep your fingers crossed. (You can watch it Tuesdays at 9pm EST on the CW). On to other premieres-\
Supernatural is back! Yippee! Catch the season premiere on Thursday at 9pm EST on the CW. Oooo, I heard Linda Blair is going to be guest starring sometime this season. How cool is that? Plus there are one or two recurring characters I am excited to see. (Denny and Meg live! On Supernatural anyway, I hope. Yay!) For those of you not smooth enough to have already seen the first season, here is a 1 minute review or just watch it here:
Lastnight was the first Gilmore Girls episode sans Amy Sherman-Palladino. I wasn’t sure what to expect. The episode had gotten mixed reviews, some saying it was a pale imitation of ASP’s classic style and others saying that the show was finally back on track after an abysmal last season. After watching it, I agree with both points of view for different parts of the show. Sookie’s whisking rant was spot-on, a perfect example of why I love (loved?) this show. Lorelia’s car analogy was a good attempt, but wasn’t quite up to GG greatness. Rumors have been floating around that ASP unofficially checked out of the show a long time ago and if I hadn’t known of her departure, I wouldn’t have noticed anything amiss while watching the season premiere. Last season really sucked, with its out-of-character and ridicules plotlines. After experiencing that though, this new guy seems heaven-sent. What are your thoughts?\
I have seen two episodes of Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip and while it is entertaining, it is not the savior of television it has been hyped as. Meh, I can’t even find the enuthusiasm to write a whole lot about the show except to say that Bradley Whitford and Matthew Perry are great; I dislike Harriet, which isn’t to say the actress is doing a bad job; and the cold open should have been done off-screen.\
I tried Vanished, Heroes, and Six Degrees but none of them could hold my interest. What shows have you tried? What shows stuck to you?
I _really_ liked *Heroes*. It has a lot of potential, and treats the whole superhero origin mythos in a surprisingly original way. It could completely go off the rails, but I’m intrigued enough to keep watching.
I’m not entirely pleased with the premiere of Gilmore Girls. I thought the whole Paris thing was ridiculous – like most of the Paris stuff last season, it went way too far over the top. The Mom just sitting there while she insulted the crap out of her daughter? No way. And who exactly is Paris that she’s being treated as the savior of all academia by random people? I just didn’t get it, it didn’t seem to mesh with the fact that she’s the failed editor of the newspaper, and that she’s not some huge celebrity.
There were other things, but I’ll wrap up by saying that I’m sick and tired of Rory being a doormat. She’s been built up as this smart, articulate, confident, accomplished young woman, and yet none of that fits in with her letting Logan walk all over her. Again, it doesn’t fit, and I hate it. It sends a horrible message to younger viewers and as a story it’s just getting OLD. Like you said, a lot of this has to do with last season which sucked, but I had hoped that the new writer would do something about this. Granted, he still might, and I hope so. But with the first episode I don’t see much chance of that happening. I could be wrong and for the sake of the show I really REALLY hope that they give her back some oomph, smarts, and personality, cause I’m dead tired of Boring Rory. As someone who’s dedicated to the show enough that I’ve been to Stars Hollow, Luke’s, and sat on Lorelai’s front steps, I can say that if they don’t change things soon, I’m just gonna give up on it. Where’s the infectious happiness of the show that got me hooked in the first place? All I see are a bunch of miserable wandering charicatures.
Well, we’ve been watching a lot of Oswald. And although intrigued by David “Squiggy” Lander’s portrayal of Henry the penguin and the occasional cameos by Richard Kind as Pongo, I just think Fred Savage doesn’t pull of the lead role and kills the musical numbers. But that’s just me. Sam loves it.
*Kev*, I am glad you liked Heroes. I just couldn’t get into it. I still don’t even know what some of the powers are.
*Heather*, oh my, Rory is a whole ‘nother post all by herself. Her character started sucking big time around the time she let Jess point out how crappy she was behaving and then ran back to her mom. Blecky. That whole storyline was as lame as April’s. Let’s just pretend that didn’t happen, ok?
*Tim*, you are a greater person than I for I can’t stand to watch Oswald. While I think Fred Savage does a fabulous job in the show, watching it is enough to drive me insane. I do enjoy David Lander though, but his character is kinf od selfish, which is a major turn-off.
