I just installed Office X on my Mac and ‘lo and behold, I now have my favorite font of all time, Tahoma! That means that our intranet looks peachy in IE 5.1 now. Yes! Ahhhh, geeks and our simple pleasures.

I’ve been looking at some
I’ve been looking at some very well done blog sites lately, and have had cool border envy. I started poking around the source and saw that in most case all these people who have cool borders are using tables! I thought for sure they’d discovered some secret CSS code to use to make things work. Nope, just tables. Since that was no challenge, I decided that I need to do neat-o borders without tables. So, you should now notice that there is only one table on any of the main pages, and it’s just to hold the about me list o’ crap. Pattin’ myself on the back right now, let me tell you.

The Undeniable Lack of Panic
Today was supposed to be a busy mess of QA, Launch and otherworldly stress. Instead, 30 minutes after the stress started, it was all called off because someone, somewhere, with letters after their name decided this was a bad idea and let’s not do it. So, all the stress and work I had geared up for never happened, and I now have nothing to do. It’s all well and good, but now I’ve read all my favorite blogs, added stuff to my Amazon Wish List, ordered a gift for someone, looked for some way to get Ximian GNOME installed in YellowDog 2.1, played with iMovie a little, talked about TiVo, went and bought a Dr. Pepper and now… squat-all.
Could I leave early and go to the Price Club for a gigantic box of diapers? Yeah, I probably could and no one would even notice. Could I curl up under my desk and take a nap? I probably could, although someone would probably notice my size twelves sticking out into the hallway.
I could do something productive like redesign my work homepage or read all those C books I’ve been meaning to. Will I? You can rest assured that I won’t be doing either of those things.

And if you’re the guy
And if you’re the guy who searched for “YellowDog + OS X + Triple Booting”, you’re in luck. Check out the geekery. I posted my step-by-step triple-boot happiness last week.

I’m here at work on
I’m here at work on a Saturday afternoon. No, I’m not working. I’m transferring video from my camera to my new Mac so I can eventually burn everything to DVD. Won’t that be fun?

From the C|Net interview with
What about the American character rubbed off on the mainstream Web that you wish hadn’t?
From the C|Net interview with Tim Berners-Lee
[Only when the medium remains impartial and universal can it remain a force for individual, regional and global understanding.] There isn’t a “mainstream” Web. It isn’t like that. There is no “party line.” It is a decentralized system, where the existence of a bunch of commercial sites in one place doesn’t affect or detract from the quite independent existence of some great free academic material in another. The fact that there is porn somewhere else does not affect those reading the poetry. -

Well, that free webcam software
Well, that free webcam software I was using just died. How cool is that.
On the topic, I tried so hard not to pick Zeldman’s Orange (can’t we just call it that now) when doing the redesign. Did I go check his site? Nope, I thought I knew it by heart. So, what did I do? I picked Zeldman Orange. Don’t worry, I’m no Orange stealer. It’s a whole different shade of orange now, baby.

Problems
Is it a bad thing if I’m a software engineer (that’s my title anyway) and I can’t stand C? I’m working through the Tome of the language (K&R), and jeez, it’s just ugly. In order to achieve Geek First Class, do you have to know C?
